A Balanced Equipping Approach

When having a team of leaders or staff, there is always a constant pull of knowing what to strategically address in your mentoring/teaching times with them. Again, from Willow‘s small group’s conference, I thought this diagram below is helpful in showing the kind of balance you want to have with your team meetings/sessions:

Within the formal gatherings conducted for our church staff, we have been using a similar model for the past two years. Our first Tuesday of the month is a meeting directed toward the vision and passion of our senior leaders. The second Tuesday of the month is a meeting directed toward the equipping of our staff’s ministry skills and discussing ongoing strategy. The fourth Tuesday of the month is a session we title, “soul speak” in which our senior leaders “speak to the souls” of our staff, giving a pastoral, devotional-like talk.

Did you catch the constant theme though? Yea, “meeting.”

The classroom is one approach, but further development is needed in thinking through the other equipping modes such as mentoring, on-the-job-training, and self-directed learning.
