The Four Promises of Forgiveness

As I am currently going through a two-day seminar on conflict coaching through the Peacemakers ministry, I was reminded of this  little nugget from Ken Sande‘s book, The Peacemaker:

The Four Promises of Forgiveness (1 Corinthians 13:5, Psalms 103:12, Isaiah 43:25)

  1. I will not dwell on this incident
  2. I will not bring this incident up and use it against you.
  3. I will not talk to others about this incident.
  4. I will not let this incident stand between us or hinder our personal relationship.

Obviously these are general principles, as sometime you do need to bring up past incidences in a non-judgmental way to help the other person see potential patterns or better solutions.  However, it can be a good test in seeing if our forgiveness can pass through these four promises.
