What Makes Up Effective Leadership?

That notorious David Brooks, recently printed a very interesting reminder of what we have been hearing over the years beneath the current of assumed effective leadership.

You can read the article in its entirety here.

As I agree with David’s assessment of the research, I still feel there is a biblical mandate to ensure collaborative, team building initiatives in the midst of decision making practices and hard-lined execution.  It has to be a both/and in my opinion…however, I agree with the research that flamboyant, emotionally charged leadership is not a must, or even more effective than low-key, steady-paced leadership.  Research is very helpful, and tells us what appears to be working, however, aside from what’s working, there are biblically prescribed approaches we must also uphold.

Your thoughts on David’s article?  How have you seen his position played out effectively or ineffectively within the church world of a senior leader?
