Ministry Success

In a day of counting noses and nickles to determine “ministry success,” I prefer Don Cousins’ assessment of biblical success found in his book, LeaderShift:

  1. Success is being faithful–doing what God has called you to do, using that which He has given you.
  2. Success is bearing fruit–both internally (fruit of the Spirit) and externally (gifts of the Spirit).
  3. Success is experiencing fulfillment–by entering into the joy of God as you faithfully bear fruit out of that which God has given you.
  4. Success is making God famous–by serving in “the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ” (1 Peter 4:11).  The aim and the result of faithful, fruitful, and fulfilling service is to make God famous.

[Personally, the term “success” rubs me the wrong way, in which I prefer to use the word “effective”…but I guess it is all semantics anyway.]
